Storyboarding.

Storyboarding is a great way to picture to film with spending little or no money. I began storyboarding the first scene in ‘The Girl In The Meadow’ and shared these with crew members so that they could get a better understanding of how I wanted to make it.

These storyboards were very beneficial when sharing my ideas.

Illustrating the Book: Print making.

Last week we began creating the illustrations for the novel I’m currently writing.

The artist John McCaughley used one of the photos i had taken earlier in a test shoot to create the first in a series of wood block prints.IMG_7206

I used my CamOne (the GoPro alternative that I talked about buying previously on this blog)  to film a time-lapse of the artist carving out the wood-print.

We will create copies of these prints that will be available to purchase on the films indiegogo campaign. This will help promote the film and entice the audience further to get involved with the project.

Illustrating the Book

When considering illustrating my book The Girl in the Meadow, I thought back to a Steven King novel I read  called The Green Mile. Each chapter of the of the book began with a full black and white illustrated page giving the reader a small glimpse into what is going to happen.

I love the idea of using simplistic imagery at the beginning of each chapter to give the audience a hint of what to expect in the story. I aim to create a similar setup for my own book.

My brother, John McCaughley, Is currently studying Fine Art. He has recently been experimenting with printmaking techniques. Here is a selection of his work.

John has agreed to illustrate the book by produce a set of original prints for each chapter. He has created this practise piece (below) to experiment with different carving techniques.

These prints will still be used once the book and film are released and we move on the the distribution stage of the project. I aim to make numbered copies of each prints and sell them through competitions and websites (such as indiegogo) in order to build hype for the film. Each print will be an original and signed by the Artist. The money made from the prints will go towards the submission costs of film festivals.
